Escape to Mexico City for history, culture, & tacos.

There are innumerable reasons to visit Mexico City, but the scrumptious food may very well be the number one reason. The tacos, tamales, huaraches, and burritos are beyond anything you’ve ever tasted before—and you’ll constantly be munching on one or the other with all the street food places dotting the city. It’s also culturally rich, full of energy, and incredibly walkable. It’s time to plan the perfect Mexico City getaway, so secure your PTO and start packing!

Checking In, Please
POV: You’ve booked a stay at the Emporio Reforma, smack dab on the main avenue in Mexico City, giving you easy access to all the must-see attractions of the city. Only 8 miles from Mexico City International Airport, the hotel is also a short drive away from the Angel of Independence (the city’s most recognizable landmark) and Chapultepec Castle (historic castle and National History Museum).
The hotel itself features spacious, comfortable rooms and early 20th century décor that makes it feel both upscale and cozy. During your stay, you’ll be more than happy to take advantage of its serene spa, gym, and restaurant serving Mexican specialties and international cuisine.

It’s Taco Time
Indulge in the most authentic and traditional tacos in Mexico City with renowned chef Abel Hernandez leading the way through two of the city’s coolest neighborhoods: Roma and Condesa. Roma is the cultural hotspot where the artistic community thrives. Explore its many art galleries, theaters, and cafes, and have some fun people-watching. Condesa, on the other hand, is Roma’s free-spirited bohemian sister with its Art Deco-inspired features, charming sidewalk cafes, and boutique shops.
“Both neighborhoods offer a variety of street food, and chef Abel Hernandez will be there to curate the best of the best for you.”

Both neighborhoods offer a variety of street food, and chef Abel Hernandez will be there to curate the best of the best for you. Try a delicious Campechano special (a taco consisting of braised flank steak, pan-fried chorizo, and crispy chicharrones—a true meat lovers’ delight!) at authentic taquerias that have fully mastered the art of the taco.

In the Market for It All
Don’t fill up too much on tacos, because you’ll need space in your stomach for more—and for some tamales and huaraches. This next tour takes you to two street markets for food shopping with a local guide, and you’ll even have the opportunity to ride the public metro. The first market features political murals depicting Mexico’s history, which your guide will explain to you in more detail as you take the time to view the artwork. Taking the metro to the second market, you’ll find all sorts of items for sale, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and fish, pinatas, flowers, and even love potions (perfect if you’re looking for some romance).
There will also be plenty of time to feast on some more tacos or tamales throughout the tour. End the day with a visit to a local family’s business, where your newly bought vegetables take center stage as you wash, cut, grill, and smash them to make your own salsa. Once the salsa’s ready, taste your creation with a classic huarache—a dish made of masa dough and smashed pinto beans and topped with onions, cilantro, potatoes, and red or green salsa.
